Erik Arentzen PDF Print E-mail

Erik is an original member of the car club that grew into the bike group that Scott roped into trying the Leadville 100 MTB race in 2005. Always tough and a strong racer, Erik not only finished the LT100 on his first try, but did so through a terrible asthma attack that put him in the hospital after the race! Since then he's finished again in 2006, raced hard in the Winter Park series moving up to the Sport class last season and continually improved throughout two seasons of racing the Cherry Creek time trial series.

Last season a bunch of the team also joined Erik on one of his yearly traditions, riding to the summit of Mount Evans on the forth of July. Erik organized a big group and it was a lot of fun climbing above 14,000 feet on a bike! This year you're equally likely to find Erik on his road bike, time trial machine, singlespeed mountain bike or his full suspension rig. Let's see what else he's got planned...

What is your birthdate? June 8, 1977
Do you have any nicknames? Not that I know of--and that's probably a good thing.
What's your favorite trail or ride? Any ride is a good ride!  No way I could pick just one.
How long have you been racing bikes? Aside from some sporadic here-and-there races over the years, really just the last two years.
Which squeeky toy will you be riding with this season?  Sumo, baby!  (Sorry, Dan!)  It was a gift from my dad for my first LT100.  Talk about an instant crowd pleaser--just a few squeezes when you need some motivation during a race, and suddenly you have a huge trailside cheering contingent!
What is one riding goal for 2008? Ride more. I'd like to cut a few minutes off my Mt. Evans time, so my goal is 2:45 this year.
What is one racing goal for 2008? I'd like to podium in at least one WP Sport race this year, and finish top-5 for the series. I miss all the podium goodness of my inaugural 2006 Beginner season.
What is one goal you would like to see the team achieve? I'd like to see RATM turn some heads in the WP team competition this year.
What is your favorite cycling related product? Our sweet RATM kit!
The thing I enjoy most about riding is...when I wave to a passing cyclist and get a wave and a smile in return.  That's what cycling is about!

Erik can be found writing and posting pictures at his blog so make sure you check it out and get ready for another interview soon from Ride Against The Machine!
